I have been wanting to blog about this picture ever since I took it. To be quite honest I was overjoyed when I took a look at the Daily Post Prompt and saw the word “Chaos”. I thought what a perfect time to use this photo…..it is the total opposite of chaos and to me speaks tranquility. I was going to showcase what chaos is not.
Then I took another look at the Daily Post and realized my mistake…..chaos was the prompt for the picture challenge. The word prompt for today was “Base“. I really wondered how I would work that word into this post but……look at that……I just did! I am so glad I got that out of the way.
This last week I have been helping out at our high school. One of the cooks had to be gone and I have been filling in for her. (she is on vacation and technically, that is kind of like having to be gone!) Going to this job means getting up on time and seeing the sun rise. I do have to admit that at this time of year you really do not have to get up that early to see the sun come up. The daylight hours are starting to get so short.
On that early morning I went outside to let the girls out(my chickens for those of you visiting this site for the first time) the sun was just starting to paint the eastern sky in narrow ribbons of pink. There was a low-lying fog hanging in the river bottom and it had rolled into the corn field. The utter stillness of it stopped me in my tracks.
There was not a breath of wind and the haze just hung there waiting for the sun to chase it away. The world was silent other than the sound of moisture dripping off the rooftops. The air was heavy with the fog and muted any sound that dared intrude.
It was hard to tell where the sky ended and the earth started. The horizon blended in blues, pinks and swirls of mist. It was such a moment of quiet beauty that it made me want to hold my breath for fear of disturbing it.
It was a grace moment….it was a gratitude moment. In that hushed time it felt like God had gifted me with a moment in time to just “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). It was that moment between night and day, between heartbeats, where time seems to stop and the world is able to take a deep breath in, breathe a prayer out and just be.
These are the moments to cherish. These are the moments to remember; when the world seems in chaos around you. These are the moments to base your hope on. The hope that life is still good, even if it does not seem to be at this point in time. These are the moments that are God’s gift to humanity……and I am grateful.
May you be gifted with a grace moment this weekend.
Your photo and your graceful words are soothing. I thought the opposite of the peaceful scene might be a quick peek at your subbing for a school cook. That sounds like chaos to me. Is it something you are comfortable doing? How long is a day’s shift? I’ve never talked with a school cook and never had a chance to ask those questions. I wish I’d paid attention to the people who prepared my school lunches and told them thank you. That was a LONG time ago.

Yes, the kitchen can be organized chaos! Once those kids start coming through you just keep moving as fast as you can. I am always amazed how polite the kids are….saying please and thank you. I love watching them. They are so full of life.
I do enjoy helping the cooks once in awhile. My shift as a sub usually is about 4 1/2 – 5 1/2 hours depending on what is being served.
Warm days like today get pretty toasty in the kitchen with the ovens running, steam coming from the dishwasher and just generally rushing around.
It is fun but it does make me grateful for the quiet times :).

You painted a perfect word picture. I felt the whole moment with you. I know those moments, I long for those moments, I live for those moments! What beauty, what peace! Amazing, simply amazing!!

Beautiful post. I like that “grace moments”. I have had a few. Our God is such a wonder. Sometimes, it only requires we slow down. Thank you for sharing that. I love that photo.

I always wonder if sometimes He just splashes our world with either such beauty or the opposite – bleakness – so that we do slow down and take some time with Him. I am always grateful in the end for either way He gets my attention.

Wow. First of all the photo is breathtaking! Second of all, I love the way you describe the view from where you’re standing. The sun, the sky, the wind and the fog. Truly an amazing grace. God Bless Chicken Grandma. This post really made my day 🙂

Thank you so much! It was just one of those morning sunrises that were such a gift. God bless you also! Have a great weekend!

Today I woke up just before sunrise… My first thought was: “I need some more sleep”, but the second one was: “I need to have a look at this first!”. The sky looked nearly the same way as it looks in your beautiful picture, but with more pink… So beautiful and calming, that’s true.

Sunrises and sunsets can be so beautiful! Maybe that is why we are “gifted” with shorter days? That way we can enjoy them without losing so much sleep!

Maybe you are right! Autumn could have been a perfect time to go camping, but nights are too cold now to sleep in a tent.
We’ve visited many beautiful places in California during past three years and the best place for watching sunrises and sunsets was Anza-Borrego.

What an amazing moment you’ve captured in a photograph. I can ‘feel’ that heart stopping moment when your eyes first captured what was being shown to you, and you heart registered how that moment came to be, and by who’s hand it had been given to you. It’s breathtaking, and I keep scrolling back just to ‘feel’ the feeling again. Stunningly, incredibly, breath-takingly beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this Chicken. I’m off for another look at that photo now.

So glad you “get it”! The beauty coupled with the absolute quiet was what really hit me. It is like the heavens were shouting “Hallelujah” in colors instead of words and noise.

[nodding] … I hear it, but not with my ears. My eyes see the sound, and my heart replies.

LOL. I was actually really excited when I saw the word Chaos. I started typing away and then I went back to look at the prompt thing and realized it was for photos! I was bummed and then thought okay let’s just still go with it and ‘fess up.

This is funny! That’s how chaos works–get rid of the rules. Chaos for me is trying to explain to my three year old why mommy is Type A and likes a picked up house. 😂

How is that working for you trying to tell a 3 year old something? LOL. I always thought trying to kids to do things was like nailing jello to a tree……

I don’t know how someone can walk out their door, see this and doubt the existence of God.

I do not understand that either. To me a morning like this just hollers “God was and is here!”
