DIY Christmas Gift

Peppermint Lotion Bar.JPG

In this very busy season I decided I would just make myself a little busier. I decided to try make lotion bars. I had attempted this project quite a few months back and ended with an epic Pinterest fail. Those lotion bars only stayed hard when they were in the fridge. Once out they just turned into blobs.

I decided I should try to attempt them again and found a different recipe and then tweaked the amounts just a bit so they would hopefully be harder without the refrigeration.

The recipe I ended up with:

Peppermint Lotion Bars
3 ounces Coconut Oil (purchased local grocery store)
3 ounces Shea Butter (
purchased here)
3 ounces Beeswax shredded (
purchased here)
20 drops Peppermint Oil (
purchased here)
glitter (optional)
Put the coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in a stainless or glass bowl.
Set bowl in pan of water and heat on stove till melted.
When melted, remove from heat and add essential oils.  I chose peppermint.
Pour into silicone molds
Makes approximately 4-6 bars depending on size of molds.
The mold I chose was this one.
I sprinkled a little glitter in the bottom for sparkle.
When lotion bars are solid remove from mold and package.

I had my son and his wife order me some molds from Amazon. (They have prime and that is so handy!) I decided on a snowflake one as it is winter and this had a Christmassy holiday feel. I also chose to put a little glitter in them. I just like the sparkle it gives.

This time the bars turned out. I was so glad. I am hoping to use them as stocking stuffers for the women in my family. (If they are reading this they will just have to act surprised when they get theirs!)  The next project will be how to package them.

If you are looking for a quick easy stocking stuffer for the gals in your group, these are perfect to whip up…..and they contain no chemicals! If you give it a try, let me know how they turn out for you.

At this point my lotion bars look a whole lot better than my kitchen does. My counters are full of stuff used for making the bars and my table is full of other stuff as I am helping with an oils workshop next week.  At some point I will catch up.

I was trying to remember what we had actually been doing this week. I was trying to figure out why I feel like I am so far behind. The fact that the week has faded into a blur shows me that there has probably been too much going on!

Some things could probably have been pushed back till later but others just needed to be done. Projects like removing cupboards from a house that will be torn down. (These will go into my laundry/craft room.) Things like getting organized for the oils workshop. Things like taking time to go to a visitation for my cousin who passed away.( I may have to tell you more about Marcia on another post. She deserves an entire post all to herself.)

This post is slightly disjointed (okay a lot disjointed!) but that has been the last few weeks around this house. At some point life will once again settle down. At some point I will feel caught up and at some point I can be organized……it just won’t be this week!  I guess I can live with that.

This lotion bar looks very nice, I thought it was hand-made white chocolate!

    My condolences on your loss.

Wish you to settle down, when you’ll find time for this!

Actually you probably could eat it. If it weren’t for the glitter! I don’t think it would taste near as good as white chocolate. I will get to slow down a little as we are spending time with the kids for a few days. That always slows life down as you visit!
My cousin passing was very unexpected. She was a special needs person and we loved her dearly.

Oh my, if you do not slow down you will be wore out in mid-December. I use to think I had to conquer every project that it would take 5 women to accomplish. Not any more. As we age we have to pass a lot of things to our kids or at least ask them to help us middle aged folks. LOL I imagine there is glitter all over your kitchen. Ha

I’m sorry for your loss. No wonder you feel distracted. The bars look brilliant. Gifts like this are always welcome. If you haven’t sorted out your packaging yet, perhaps clear cellophane bags? You can get food safe ones, some of which have a square base, or craft shops sell flat ones for displaying finished cards. These are a lot cheaper in the UK. Or maybe a square of freezer or greaseproof paper, pulled up with a pretty ribbon or raffia? Can you tell I like wrapping?!

    Dearest Chicken.,
I’m saddened to read of the loss of your cousin, Marcia. She will be very much missed throughout your family.

Your little lotion snowflakes look so beautiful, and the glitter feels right for them too! As for packaging them, you could make mini carton boxes (like orange juice boxes only shorter), and nestle the snowflakes into some little squares of tissue, wrapped around each flake, and sealed closed with either a clear disk seal, or maybe a little piece of Christmas themed washi tape. Pop your chosen amount of wrapped flakes into the carton box then seal the box closed with some double sided tape. Add a name tag and Voila! Ready to give!

Sending you love and squidges, Chicken. ~ Cobs. x

I’m sure it is just this time of year but where does the time go? Well….I’ve figured out part of my problem….this pc……takes up way too much time just reading email, blogs, newsletters ,crafting ,news. No wonder I’m so far behind. But how can I not read all. I don’t want to be left out of any thing important.

The never-ending joys of glitter! I will have to skip this part if I can embark on this endeavor (I’m still enjoying peppermint foot cream, BTW )

He is our peace at all times. The sting of loss is inevitable, may His presence overwhelm and conform you and your family.

You can always make the lotion bars in a flower shape in the Spring :). Maybe life will slow down then? Or when we have a snowstorm?
Yes, loss is a fact of life. I know Marcia will be waiting to greet us when we die….just like she greeted us every Sunday in church. She was the self appointed greeter.

Wow that came out great, love the glitter! Had to laugh at your “act surprised”. What if you were able to attach them to a small shovel with a ribbon or something, since you use a shovel in snow…just a thought. So you had a busy week too…love the quote, very apropos! Yes things will settle back down after the new year begins. Until then…go with the flow! 🙂

I’ve marked this and place it in my to-do ‘project’ file. They look beautiful and would make such a nice gift. I had a similar experience just the other day with something I concocted and blogged about. Headache salve with essential oils in coconut oil. I had it on a table in my craft room, picked it up to smell, and swoosh, oil all over me and furniture too. I had forgotten the coconut oil will liquefy when it gets warm. I won’t make that mistake again…I hope. It’s in the fridge now. :/
