So much hate, so much destruction brought on by hate, so much hate inspired by fear. We wonder what we can do.to change the world and then we realize we can’t. So we wonder what we should do …… at least I wonder.
Out of that wondering came the thought that I am only one person and how does one person successfully affect the world. How does one person change things for the better? How does one person make everyone feel like they matter? And then I realize one person can’t; but God can.
I am One
I am one woman
I have one voice
I am not a million in a march
I am not a thousand, a hundred, ten or even two
I am one.
I am not famous or noteworthy
I am only one
I cannot make someone care ….. but I can care
I cannot force someone to have compassion….but I can have compassion
I can reach out to those who don’t agree with me.
I cannot make them reach back….but I can still reach out.
I can pray for those who choose a different path than me
I cannot change them….it is not mine to change….only to pray
I can have faith, I can have hope
I can love in the face of hate
I am one voice
I am one woman
I am one
And God will make it enough.
And that is all I have. 1 Corinthians just says it so much better than I can.
13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13
New International Version (NIV)
And what you have in your heart is enough because you have faith that our God is leading his faithful followers. You are one, but you are not alone. Our quiet voices when spoken together and shared with others are strong and far reaching. As the Bible says…Love always hopes. Love always perseveres. And…you are a true writer and thinker. You are giving of your talent as God intended for you to do. Thank you, my friend!

My mind has just been going on this the last couple days. After the inauguration and the rioting, the women’s march where women were not welcome because of their pro life beliefs…..the anger and fear. I just kept thinking on it and this is what came out.
I am only one; but God can use my only being one to be what He wants me to be and to do.

You are so right. I have been thinking of the totality of the situation the entire day today and over the weekend. I am appalled at the statements of two so-called “celebrities”. We talked about it during dinner and I did not even want to read WordPress or any news sites. Very unusual for me. And then…as I was getting organized for physical therapy tomorrow…I truly felt compelled to look at WordPress. Yours was the very first post that I saw! One of those God moments! I so appreciated your words. Confirmation to keep the faith and follow the path that He wants me to be on.

Thank you so much. Sometimes life seems so messed up but perhaps we just need to focus on what matters and where we are.

Very well spoken Faye. We as one can set an example for those around us. Our preacher had a sermon on Love last Sunday. He used the scriptures you have posted here. God is with us in our quest for compassion and love – so who can be against us. xoxo Love and peace to you and your family. 🙂

tremendous impact on me from your post-deeply inspiring and the scriptures was just perfect. I feel like you as always what can I do??? I can love my family, friends neighbors-all humans that I encounter. That is what I can do and I hope it is enough. Your post summed this up so beautifully. Made me cry.

After watching the news it almost felt hopeless. Then I focused on what does God require of me? Not what does He require of everyone else…but of me. To love.

right-Anne Morrow Lindberg in Gift From the sea, wrpte about too much stimulation from the news -in the 80s!! It wears me down to hear sadness anger and sorrows that can not help-so she wrote about just loving-I try to practice that. our hearts are so kindred.

This is a passage that everyone can understand and identify with, no matter what their personal beliefs or religion. A great choice.

I just heard on the weather that 6″ to 12″ of snow are expected in Iowa and nearby states! Is that right? That kind of weather calls for five pair of wool socks!!

You heard right! We probably have 4 inches on the ground right now and still coming down hard and blowing pretty good. I have a feeling I will not get to my dental appointment in the morning!
I chased the girls in early tonite so I would not have to dig them out of a snowbank later.
Going to have to dig up my one pair of wool socks. My oldest son actually gave everyone in the family these fat wool socks for Christmas one year. They are really quite wonderful.

I often find myself thinking in this light; I am ONE! What can I do to change things? I honestly feel helpless but just a little kindness goes a long way. Let love lead. Thanks for sharing

Also to consider…your ONE..”Can put one thousand to flight…. & two, ten thousand” According to
[Leviticus 26:8; Deuteronomy 32:30] So, one is powerful, & if you join with ONE more person…its even more powerful 🙂

I have a feeling that if we truly let God use our One, we would be amazed at what He used our One for.

That’s beautiful Faye! If all us “ones” send love into the world then it will make a change…so even though you are one, you are much!!

I know. I really believe that God will use all of our “Ones”. We just need to be kindness to all we meet and eventually it will spill over.

What is life without love Ma’am, it would be like waiting for rain in the drought and that’s useless and disappointing. If only humans would give love a chance and not just word say, I mean real love, then there would be no need for wars, riots, chaos, ect. We need to learn how to love and teach love. This is really challenging Ma’am thank you for sharing.

Glad you stopped by. It is always easy to love certain people and harder to love others. I do think we are supposed to love them all….no matter how hard it is.
