You Can Go Anywhere From Here……

The Road South

My thoughts seemed a little scattered today so I decided I should take a short walk, up the road, to the blacktop that runs past our farm. Once you reach the black top it rather feels like being  atop of the world…..at least for Iowa. You can see for miles in all directions except one.

As I stood there this morning, in the warm sunshine, I kind of felt like Tom Hanks at the end of the movie “Castaway”. You know ….. the scene at the end where he stands in the middle of the road and wonders which one to take.

I stood in the middle of the blacktop road…..I even stood on the yellow line. For those of you who worry about traffic flattening me out…..not to worry….this is a rural blacktop and you can see a vehicle come quite a ways off.  You can also hear them coming a ways off as this is fairly quiet country…..so it was quite safe.

As I stood there, soaking up the sun like a cat, that is sitting in an open barn door, I realized what a beautiful view I had in every direction.  I thought about all the places you could get to from this one starting point and decided you could pretty much go anywhere from here.

Even if you don’t physically go those places it is fun to dream about going to those places. No passport is needed to dream about going somewhere……a fortune is not necessary to just close your eyes and picture far off places…..all you need is a little imagination and a desire to roll with that thought.

For me those roads signify the places I have on my bucket list to go and see. They signify the people I love, who live at the end of those roads. Those roads speak of dreams.

Then, I turn to face the road that brings me back home…..

The Road Home

I realize that though my road home has a few muddy spots, is filled with small rocks…..it is still my path to the place I call home……and it brings a huge smile to my face. It is my safe haven, it is the home where my husband is, it is the place my kids come home to visit, it is the place my “girls” peck about the yard, it is the place where I can sit on my porch on a sunny Spring type day and I can dream of taking all those roads someday.

It is good to realize that home is a great place to be. It is good to be content with where you have been placed. It is also a good thing to be able to dream and dream about wandering to all the places you would someday like to see.

When I was a kid in grade school my report cards used to have comments that told my folks that I did to much daydreaming. I think I still do a lot of daydreaming and I don’t think it is a problem at all. In fact……I think it might be a gift.

May you have the time to travel new roads this weekend. May you have the time to daydream about those places that are on your bucket list. And may you find contentment in the place you that you call home.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.
Always remember, you have within you
the strength, the patience, and the passion
to reach for the stars to change the world.

I have 2 1/2 more weeks of post surgery restrictions….so it was the perfect day for walking and daydreaming. I decided it was probably good the traffic was pretty non-existent as I was standing there. Oh well……it is good to keep them guessing!

Reminds me of that poem from “The Lord Of The Rings”…something like “The road goes ever onwards…” and day dreaming is kind of fun! Hope you are well 🙂 xx

We always dream about taking off down the road and discovering that world out there. Then when you venture from home for a few hours and come back – you find there is no place like home. Ha

These last two days have been beautiful and it is so good to get outdoors and walk around. It is definitely healing to be able to get outdoors. It is so good in so many ways.
You have a great weekend Ruthie!

Wonderful thoughts here. My dirt road has not one or two or even three mud puddles ,it’s a big puddle but it gets us where we need to go …sometimes. LOL Can’t see very far down the road because of all the trees …which is nice but we can’t see storms coming either. And in dry conditions like the last couple of years we lose trees from no rain. A lot of dead pine around. Some tree people say it is a situation brought in from Katrina. They just die almost over night. So sad because we either have to take them down or the storms will.

We have trees along the rivers and where people have planted them but pretty much a wide open view around here. I think our yard is where the mud decides to hang out in the spring.
That is sad about your trees. Does that make it a fire hazard because of dead trees and dry weather? Or is that not a problem?

Oh yes…never know when some nuckel head will come by a toss out a cig. Or some one will burn trash and it gets out of bounds. Kinda scary. Last summer we were under a urban most of the time. In Ala. they couldn’t even burn their fireplace until a rain came in..

We had that a couple harvest season ago. So many combines were setting the dry corn fields on fire. They had to have a tractor and disc standing by in case one started. That way they could disc a huge swath around the fire and hopefully contain it.

Hello! I have missed talking to you…we are back from Big Cedar/Branson! Your post was significant because I read it on our way driving back home yesterday. We arrived back about 10:30 last night and I was so very happy to see our neighborhood! I love to go new places and have always daydreamed. You would not believe all of the trips that I have planned…on the internet. I have been planning a trip to the San Juan Islands (off of the coast of Washington state) and on up to Vancouver…for at least two years! We never had the time to go during the summer because Mike’s auditors for his company usually arrive in July or August. Therefore, he has lots of work before, during and after! Christmas vacation would be too cold and perhaps questionable weather. Hopefully, we can now go…I have never been to that part of the country. I can hardly think of anything better than seeing a place for the first time! We were in Branson for less than a week, but we have never been up there this time of year! Fun! We were at a “Legends” of music show on Thursday night and a lady sitting on the row in front of us looked like you…I mean looked like your picture from your son’s wedding! Truly! She even laughed like I think that you laugh and was talking to people sitting in front of her group…she had just met the people and acted like they had been friends for years. Something that you would probably do and something that I would do. Honestly, the resemblance was uncanny!!! Mike thought that I had really lost my mind this time! Anyway…love this post and I know this is a long comment!!

I cannot wait to someday meet you! LOL. I have never made it to Branson but I hear it is really a lot of fun. My sister-in-law and my brother in law stayed at Big Cedar for one of their anniversaries. She said it was beautiful.
Those husbands always think we have lost our minds! They should realize what cheap entertainment we are for them!

Forgot to tell you…during the time that I was fixated on staring at your look-a-like…Mike said… “Go down and talk to her…it will be like meeting FAYE CHICKEN!” I had told him your first name because that was his mother’s first name. He just got a bit confused about your blog name!

My heart is at home wherever Mr.Cobs, Little Cobs and my dog is. I feel my biggest peace and greatest ‘happy’ when we’re all together.

What a fantastic post, Chicken. It made me slow down and stop panicking about trying to catch up with all the blogs and blog posts which I’ve missed over the past couple of weeks. I’m SO behind that I don’t feel I’ll ever catch up.

But this post … as I read through it, it calmed me. It stilled that thing inside me which was getting upset about letting my friends down. I feel all chilled now and like I can catch up …. it’s not such a mountain to climb. I’ll do it. Eventually. And … if I do miss a post here or there, I’m sure people will forgive me.

Love that you’re out and about. It helps to blow the cobwebs inside the brain away. (Not me, obviously …. I’m made outta glue and I’m sticking with you! lol)

I am glad it stilled your heart Cobs! I wouldn’t stress over missing blog posts…..people will understand. Sometimes life just happens, things get busy and there are other things that head the list for the day…and that is life and that is the journey.
Enjoy the journey Cobs, if it takes you through blog posts or somewhere else today, tomorrow and who knows when….take time to enjoy.
