Rainstorms and Promises

The other night we had a small rainstorm come through our area of the country. The weatherman had been promising for days that rain was on the way. My husband and I thought that sounded a lot better than the snow that we received not that long ago.

The clouds started rolling in and looked kind of threatening, like they held some danger in their dark swirls. It was odd that you could look one direction and the sky was full of light and held none of the threat that the clouds to the north seem to hold.

I must admit there was a strange beauty in those clouds. They seemed to cast an entirely different light over the landscape than was normal. Colors seemed deeper, the world seemed hushed and waiting, and you could smell the coming rain on the breeze.

It was a time to just stand and marvel at the painting that was creation. It was a time to enjoy that hush before the wind picked up and the drops began to fall.

The girls did not seem to worry about the coming rain. They did seem to stick a little closer to “home” . I always wonder if animals have an inner voice that tells them when they need to stick close to home and be ready to run for cover. It is a good lesson to learn from the girls….that until that time comes….you might as well enjoy the day you have been given.

Once the drops began to fall the girls ran for cover and were safely in for the night. I was grateful for that; as that meant I did not have to go out when it was pouring rain and dark! Sliding around on the grass and in mud while holding an umbrella and gripping a flashlight requires some extra coordination that is sometimes lacking……

Even the wild birds seemed to sense that it was time to find a place to hunker down and stay close to home. This robin stayed fairly close to her nest while waiting for the rain to come. Their lifestyle seems to be one of trust that life will be okay…..through the storms and on the sunny days.

IMG_3260 A Promise

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Once the rain had rolled through the sun came out in a blaze of glory and we had the most beautiful rainbow! We not only had one complete rainbow ……..

IMG_3261 A Double Promise

A Double Promise

…….we were blessed with a double rainbow! What a blessing to be reminded of God’s goodness and His promises to us. It was such a lesson that “He gives us so much more than we could ever imagine.” Ephesian 3:20.

May your coming weekend be filled with blessings, seen and unseen. May you find safe shelter in the times of storm and may you see the promise that is before you.

“The sun is always shining….
you just can’t always see it.”

Oh I definitely believe that animals know what’s up with nature and the weather, they are so in tuned with in. Wow what a great pic of the girls, quite an assortment, I must say they sure made me smile seeing them all. I love watching clouds they are so amazing, especially as you saw both threatening and non-threatening clouds all in the same sky. And that double rainbow, what great pics of that…gave me goosebumps. I said WOW right out loud! Love the robin in the tree too. As always such a wonderful and touching story Faye! 🙂

    Faye,
The rain and the sun. And the rainbow- what amazing contrast and what great pictures of the majesty of creation. The animals and wild life seem to be more in sync with the elements. But people like you who live close to the earth, seem to notice these things more than us city folk.
Every thing is a blessing- rain or sun. It depends on how we see it.
These days we have very great heat here- the glare from the ground blinds your eye. Honestly I have been bad mouthing these days, wishing for days such as yours. But even in these days there is hope- hope that in a few days time there will be autumn and then the winter and then spring.

Everything is a blessing! I love that. Sometimes we don’t see the blessing of the dark clouds till a long while later.
I can totally relate to you waiting for the autumn, winter and spring. We have that in the middle of the summer when it is sweltering hot and humid. and then again in the winter when it is below zero and an icy wind. It does make these days, for us, so much sweeter.

My restrictions have been lifted as of last week. They said listen to my body…if it hurts or feels like something “pulling” don’t do it. So I am going about it that way. Did some lawn work yesterday as the weather was nice and that went really good. And how are you doing?

I am loving you great pictures. And I love weather watching even though it does get harder the darker it gets and the trees blocking the sky.( But I do like my trees.) I guess it is seeing Gods power in that storm that is somewhat of a comfort to me.

We were not too worried with this storm….even if it hailed there were no crops in the field to be damaged. In a month that will be a worry whenever those clouds get that dark.
It is a comfort to know God is in control. I am always reminded He also comes in the whisper…even though that rainbow was more like a Hallelujah shout.

Beautiful post Faye – loved all of your photos. The sky was beautiful and the double rainbow was fantastic. Always nice when your girls go to bed early. When we had chickens I also was glad when they went to bed early.

Dad always has a great way of looking at life. I always feel honored when people tell me I take after my dad with how I think!
Thanks of the photos! Love taking them and with a digital camera you cannot go too far wrong.

I have a digital camera and understand how to do only three things with it. Close up, super close up and look back at the still shots….Oh and just point and click….

Yes. That is probably something I should do too. I could also read the manual, but it runs to about 200 pages! A class sounds way more fun.

that rainbow was so vibrant-reminded of one I wrote about not so long ago-I always watched my chickens. If they go in-rain is going to set in and stay-or a storm-if they stayed out, then it was just passing-they were right every time. Now , your dad’s quote is beautiful and wise. Frame it. xx

When I saw that rainbow I thought of you and your post! I had to rush right out and take a look at it and when it became a double it was such a great gift.
I should have someone calligraphy that quote! Thant is a good idea…thank you.

I am totally behind on my reading and your post has made my morning far more complete. I like rainy days…and stormy weather. However, the tornadoes that hit East Texas last weekend were very destructive. Yet, the kind humanity of people was featured by God once again. A reminder of our obligation to one another in the midst of turmoil. Back to your story…you have a lot of ladies! More than I thought! How will I ever keep up?!

LOL I have too many ladies! I had a gal from a town nearby bring me extra ones last year. She gets new ones every year and doesn’t know what to do with her year old ones. Lar is sure we are running a nursing home for laying hens!
I kind of keep tabs on the Texas weather since I have family and now friends living there!
I was way behind on reading posts also…..takes a while to catch up and by then I am behind again……..such is life.

Hi! When I saw all those chickens in the picture… I thought…”surely those are not Faye’s ladies!”… Lar is so funny! I like him already! Sounds like something Mike would say…oh dear! We just got back home. Long day already…but very nice! We did stop by Costco and there were about a thousand people shopping. I lost Mike immediately in the crowd. Typical! I knew that he was making a beeline for the food sampling places. Of course…that is where I found him! Oh…forgot to ask…what is the red building behind the chickens? So cool looking! If you tell me it is the schoolhouse…I am going to be even more envious and we know that envy is certainly not appropriate!!! Funny that you said that about the weather…because I keep up with the weather in Iowa now…and so does Mike!

The red building behind them is their chicken coop :). Here is a link to the post I did on it way back when….https://thechickengrandma.wordpress.com/2016/02/17/lessons-from-a-chicken-coop/
The schoolhouse is white and needs a lot of work to restore that also! Our projects will never end I am thinking.
When we head for Costco or Sam’s Club Lar also checks out the food samples. His favorite is when they hand out those little cream puffs or the cream cheese squares.

What a lovely post. I agree that the light cast through clouds is oftentimes beautiful. I enjoyed seeing your chickens. I’ve always loved the thought of having chickens, but my neighbors are all a little too close I think. We do have chickens in the neighborhood though. They roam now and then and I love their visits to my yard. They are only a duo, I think I would want a big flock if I had them. My sister has more chickens coming in a few weeks. I will have to enjoy hers and admire the tiny chicks she will raise.

Baby chicks are so cute! I could watch them for hours. I order my chicks from a company that sends them through the mail…it is always and exciting day when the post office calls and you can hear chicks peeping in the background. I will probably get new ones next year because these girls will then be 3 years old and not too productive anymore.

What a wonderful post with beautiful photos. I love that deep quiet that comes before a storm. It’s eery but comforting to me, if that makes any sense. Loved seeing your girls too, after hearing so much about them. Thank you for sharing with us.

That makes total sense. Right before the storm it is kind of muffled and that certain hush that leaves you waiting.
It was easy to get a picture of all the girls this time. Usually they are all wandering off by ones or twos and are all over the place!
