Dew on the Grass

IMG_4146 Sparkling Grass in the Morning

These last foggy mornings have been something wonderful. I have written before how I love the muted morning sounds and the feeling of being wrapped in a blanket of fog. I realize I get to feel that way because I am not forced to be traveling through that fog on a busy road.

I, instead, get to drink my morning tea on the porch and take it all in. I love the way the dew drops cling to the very tips of the grass. Once the sun starts to break through it looks like a sea of diamond tipped slender grass spears.

I am amazed at how that small drop clings so tenaciously to the end of that piece of grass. There doesn’t seem to be much structure for that drop to cling too and yet it hangs on.

It is beautiful how that small droplet sparkles and glimmers in the morning sun. It seems like one minute that drop is there and when you next look it has disappeared. Dew on the grass is one of those gifts in nature that is fleeting.

Life is the same. From breath to breath things change so fast. One minute your kids are babes in your arms, a blink later and they are in school, two blinks and they are walking down a church aisle and leaving your home. Before you know it a small child grins at you and calls you grandma.  Life is fleeting; but life is oh…..so very good.

Take time today to experience the small gifts around you…. the smile of a child, the feel of the sun on your face, the beauty of a fog-laden morning and a drop of dew sparkling like diamonds in the sun.

Life is fragile, like the dew hanging delicately on the grass,
crystal drops that will be carried away on the first morning breeze.

and some day it is that dew that helps the plants to survive a dry spell.
The little things have been on my mind lately. Some how I managed to sleep crooked and my neck has been in pain all week A couple of nights …no sleep for the pain. This is where the little things come in. Troy was a.good nurse. He would have rubbed the knot out or at least held me close so I could sleep. I miss the little things…like holding his hand at meal time prayers, laughing at his funny jokes and watching him watch the cows. Little things mean a lot….don’t ever take them for granted.

Foggy mornings hold some of my favorite times. I like the peace of the muted world. In my mind, sunshine screams sun! sun! come out and play! come out and plant some more flowers!!! Fog whispers shhh! do you hear the crickets? shhh! do you hear the one raindrop that fell onto the roof of the porch? shhh! Do you hear Him?

Of course…this is a wonderful post, Faye! I still miss you and I am almost real again. Sort of!!

I love your appreciation of the tiny things that make life so wonderful. We didn’t sit still much today. There were 10 of us neighbors sharing a meal. There seems to be a different mix of people for every summer holiday, and that keeps things exciting.

    Faye,
Foggy cold mornings must be wonderful with a slower start to the day. The time we take to savor our coffee in the mornings or do our daily devotions helps us take things easier and to think things through while the summer days move fast and keep us on our toes.
I am glad you have these times.

    Faye,
Thanks so much for writing this post from your heart. I have not thought of dew the way you described it and you did it so well. I sat on my porch tonight listening to the crickets and other night sounds, just enjoying the quiet and escaping from the stress of my life. Thanks again! I always love your posts.

Love your descriptions of the dew. A few mornings ago, I went out to inspect the dew on the grass, and realized that it was crisp – yes, the first frost of the season had creeped up from the field beyond! Fortunately it didn’t get up to the deck and potted tomato plants before the sun banished it!
