The weather in our part of the country has definitely taken a turn for the better. Just a few short weeks ago we were getting weekly blizzards. Yes….that is weekly….pretty much three weekends in a row we had blizzards that sent us snowfall in the double digits.
In an attempt to find the beauty in those snowfalls a few weeks ago I set out with my camera to intentionally find it. As I roamed around on the west side of our house I spotted the garden gate propped against the house. I love those vintage garden gates. I also loved the mirror image of the lines from that gate, on the side of our home.
For some reason, the transition from winter to spring was very abrupt this year. There was no gentleness about it. It seemed that one day we had a blizzard and the next we had warmer weather that melted the snow in a day.
Life can be like that quick change in the seasons. One day your children are small….and in the blink of an eye they have grown and are all getting married. Another blink and you are attending the baptism of a grandchild.
The other weekend we had the great joy of attending one of those baptisms for a grandson. It was a wonderful weekend with family. Seeing four generation all gathered for that celebration was a blessing. (I would have put a photo here but waited to long to get permission! I like to let the parents decide if it is okay.)
It was a great reminder that life keeps changing. Seeing those four generations was a reminder of faithfulness and love. I have a feeling my little grandson has no idea of what a blessing that day was….yet.
In years to come I hope he comes to treasure the stories of that day. I pray it will always be a reminder to him of the love of family and friends and the faithfulness of generations.
I pray that when he is older and looks in the mirror; he sees a glimpse of those generations that came to celebrate. I hope that he realizes that life and seasons may change quickly, but some things will remain constant…..the love and blessing of family.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren
is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life,
but rather a legacy of character and faith.

Thank you Al. My life seems to mirror those seasons quite often! Some good….some not…but like the seasons, I know it will change.

By the way, Faye, just wondered if you’ve ever thought of dressing up your hens a bit……….https://www.simplemost.com/woman-makes-living-chicken-clothes/?utm_campaign=geek&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=partner&utm_partner=geek

Hahahahha….. I wonder how crazy my girls would go if I tried sticking tutus and clothes on them? I can just picture them rolling around trying to escape.

Wonderful post. As a fellow grandmother, I agree that faith and family top all things. My husband and I are in Portugal deciding whether to move here, but after a month, I want to go home to be near my children and grandchildren. I am the matriarch, so to speak, not in a power-grabbing way, but in a love and teach way. Thankfully my husband who really wants to come here and stay understands that I am a homebody. I promised that we would save and travel every year, so he can satisfy his wanderlust. Lovely post.

My husband used to want to move to Alaska. I am finding that the more grandchildren we have the less talk I hear of moving. I told him we could vacation there…I just did not want to move permanently.

Your gate to nowhere was a lovely photo. I wish we could have seen the baptism picture. It’s not too late for me, if you get the permission.

I will do that Anne. (photos that is). Love to show off my family.

You’re absolutely right about how time flies … it seems the older I get, events that were once so important tend to get fuzzy in my mind and everything seems like an awfully long time ago. As to the weather, our SE Michigan weather was exactly the same way – on Sunday I was taking pictures at the River, shivering alongside the fishermen who were likewise bundled up and hands with heavy gloves holding fishing poles. Two days later it was 85. There was no time for that gradual warm-up that heralds Spring’s arrival – hopefully it will trend just warm and not hot for awhile.

trending warm and not hot made me smile. We keep joking that we might just bypass spring and make a full launch into the hot muggy days of summer. Not sure I really like that idea either!

Nope I didn’t like that idea of jumping right into Summer either … part of the delight of Spring is the first day you go without a hat, gloves, or even a coat and enjoying those gradually warming days. We were too extreme – we went from freezing cold on Sunday morning to short sleeves three days later. And the hot weather brought storms, another casualty of Summer.

“….. a legacy of character and faith.” … I can think of no better things to ‘gift to a child member of the family.
A truly beautiful post Chicken. Even the gate reached into my heart and gave me a warm smile, for it told me it’s story. Not in a wordy way, but in a feeling, conveyed via the photograph.
Perfect, and incredibly beautiful photograph and blog post. But then … look who wrote it!
Sending lots of love to you both ~ Cobs. xxx

Thank you so much my dear friend. This post was pretty typical for me LOL….starting out one way and veering off and ending up somewhere different entirely. For some reason…it is just the way my brain works…..or it may be that is just how God pushes my brain to go.

This is a great post. It reminded me of the Kenney Chesney song “Don’t Blink”.
Having four generations together is certainly something to celebrate. I find it is becoming harder to do these days. I love the Billy Graham post also.

Thank you so much Ruth. I love that song!
Having all that family together was really something. Baby LIncoln had 3 full set of great grandparents there, two full sets of grandparents, Uncles, aunts and a friend….a wonderful day indeed.

Baby Lincoln is blessed to have so many grandparents and great grandparents.
In our family there is always a bit of sadness that accompanies the joy of welcoming a new baby, as we can’t call my mom, who passed away in 2011, and share the news.

Beautiful post! Yes, life is always changing but what stays the same (or grows) is the love a family brings. Love the snow picture. Must feel nice to get warmer weather after those blizzards. It’s been cool and cloudy here for the past few days, then today it was bright and sunny and warm. It felt wonderful!!

We went from 30 and 40 degree days to an 80 degree day! It almost felt hot. I am so ready for warmer weather and getting my garden going. I am even ready to push my lawn mower!
The sun feels absolutely wonderful.

Faye…I have been thinking about you every day this winter and during the ongoing “spring winter”! I would watch the weather on the Today Show and wait until Iowa was mentioned…and that occurred constantly! What a difficult and long winter. I imagine that it must be a challenge to be thankful for the beauty surrounding you when all you see is snow and more snow! I hope that your crops will be fine. I have been wondering how the weather might affect your farm.
I am certain that the baptism for your grandson was a joyous celebration. I want to see pictures of him! I will post some pictures this week of our precious little grandson! We truly love being grandparents…I have found the interactions between Mike and our little baby to be wonderful! Our daughter and son-in-law call Mike “the baby whisperer”…he talks, sings and whistles quietly…and the baby just looks at him and sweetly smiles!
I am overjoyed to be talking with you again…my very special friend!!

It was a long winter! The last couple days we have had 80s….I hate to say it but it almost feels too hot after just being in the 30s and 40s.
I will see what I can do about getting some photos of that grandson. I love the thought of Mike being the baby whisperer LOL. My son is that way with his son.
You have no idea how glad I am that you are back Pat! You were in my thoughts and prayers through the journey…and still are.
I will be watching for those photos of your grandson!
