Card Making and Sister Time

Card Making

I had a great day spending time with my little sister making cards today. In the weeks before surgery we picked this date as a good day to get my mind off recuperating and onto something fun.

She came before noon with dinner in hand…..chicken, broasted potatoes, and cactus bread from our local Pizza Ranch. That was a great way to start and was delicious!  Once eating was out of the way we got down to figuring out what cards we wanted to make.

She got her “stuff” out of her vehicle and then we scavenged through my craft cupboards. We also looked through Pinterest to find ones we thought we could make with what we had. The picture above shows the ones we decided on and ones we put our twist on.

We decided early on that perfection was not the goal.  This was a good decision as our cards ended up not always so perfect. The stamps and ink we used were mainly ones from Stampin Up. Our cardstock and paper came from anywhere we could get them. (Michaels, Ben Franklin and/or Hobby Lobby).

We spent a lot of time today making cards; but what was so much fun was the time spent visiting about anything and everything. We rehashed past surgeries, family history, good jokes we had heard, recipes we have tried and so many other topics. It was a good day spent laughing and connecting.

The time spent turned an ordinary day into something more. It turned it into a time of family and the memories that family carries. We have already made plans to do this again….only next time we are inviting the other sisters and friends. I have one sister who tells us that, “crafts make her sweat.” She will also be invited and we will try to make it as sweat free as possible!

The thing to remember is not what the cards end up looking like ……but how much fun it was gathering to make them. So much of life is like that….it is not what you accomplish but how and who, you accomplish it with.

What do you like to do with your sisters? What makes for a great time spent with your family?

May your weekend be filled with family, friends and fun. May you make memories that will last a lifetime and be the kind you can’t wait to revisit when you gather.

I don’t have any sisters, but I love spending time with my three sisters-in-law. Since we don’t live close to any of them, I enjoy chatting and catching up when we do get together. Crafting would definitely get in my way, since I must be kin to your sister who isn’t overly enthusiastic about it. I loved reading about your sister-day.

I have two sisters. The one who is closer in age to me, we don’t hang around much with as she lives far away but when we meet up its usually about illnesses, and relatives and other stuff like that- nothing fun. The other one, is 18 years younger than me, so she is like my daughter- she tries to mother me and often tries to mother my children too. I cannot remember fun times in recent years we have had together but we used to have fun times as children.
    Faye,
I am glad you enjoyed a stress free day with your sister and that you are well enough to sit up and play making cards with her.

I am finding the older we get, as sisters, the more fun we have. We do spend lots of time reminiscing about the fun we had as kids.
I had to chuckle about your sister trying to “mother” you. I think we all have a sister like that!
The day was fun but I was so tired by night…..in a good way.

I am slowly getting back to normal. It was good we had Pinterest for ideas as my brain only works so good at this point.
We had as much fun talking as card making!
I bet you have a good time with your girls. That would be fun!

Well, come on over to Iowa and craft with me. I get inspired every so often.
I am still trying to get used to the new “look” wordpress gave our stats. Not sure if I like it or not…..that might be due to me liking to stick to what I know and is comfortable!

Wow Faye those cards are beautiful! Are those the ones you actually made? You could sell them to Hallmark. Sure sounds like the day was just the sort of pick me up you needed. Very smart of you two to decide upon it prior to the surgery. Hope you are healing along fine. My sister lives in Florida so we don’t get to spend much time together but when we do we have lots of fun too. So glad you made some new memories along with cards. 🙂
